Where do I start, having been a horror fan all my life and always fascinated with creature effects and make up, to be able to finally get the chance to go through my own creature make up and photo shoot was amazing.
Me and my soon to be partner spoke to Rick and booked our own wedding shoot.
We travelled from Scotland down to Dover to Ricks studio for the day so we could get a horror wedding shoot and have to say we are both over the Moon.
Rick is super talented, fantastic at his job, he made us feel very welcome as soon as we were in the door plus helped and directed us through the whole process from start to finish.
We would recommend anyone to take a day out and pop down to his studio and give it a go as by far this was one of the best experiences of our life.

This was my first photoshoot and I have to say that I started very shy and impatient at the same time. I didn't know what to expect, didn't know how to pose or to react. All I can say is I am super happy that I found Rick. He has this amazing ability to make you comfortable. He explained to me all the stages that we had to go through and somehow, I managed to find my inner beast and "live the moment". I am completely amazed by the final work and I can definitely say that I will visit the Horrify Me site again for more fun and entertaining photoshoot.

I had my first shoot with Horrify Me today and it was unreal, so much fun and an experience like no other! I decided to transform into a savage biker vampire (dreaming of being part of the Lost Boys gang) and Rick was absolutely awesome to work with. I've had a fair amount of experience in front of a camera but never anything like this, and Rick was amazing at directing and ensuring we got some wicked shots! Couldn't be happier after today and I'm back again next week for something even crazier... 100% worth the 6am start and 7 hour round trip, easiest 5 stars I've ever given! I would recommend EVERYONE go get sticky and gory at Horrify Me, you won't regret it.

This was my fourth shoot with Rick and Horrify Me and it won't be my last. Despite the online persona for my work, I'm actually shy in real life and yet Rick has a great way behind the camera that makes me feel at ease and comfortable to do pretty much any of the stupid ideas I can come up with for my calendars (Hell, I'm the guy that did the photo with my tackle in his office Henry The Hoover). He can make the most self-conscious of people feel at ease and feel good about seeing their pictures afterwards.
With regards to the photos themselves, the work is always top notch. The price is more than reasonable when you consider how long you're shooting with him for and the hours in the edit when he tweaks the photos to get you the finished image. What impresses me more is - he is clearly amazing at the horror photography but it doesn't just stop there. I've seen tasteful photos, classic portraits, the horror work, boudoir shoots and each and every theme is just as expertly crafted as the last. So, whatever you want shot (your own ideas to one of his "packages") you can be sure to know you're going to be ecstatic with the finished product.
If you have been contemplating a shoot, stop waiting. Get booked in and give him a go. Not only do you walk away with some great shots for yourself, or any projects you may wish to do, but you also have a fun filled day out in some great company.

I get a crazy idea, I call Rick, he goes ‘let’s do it’, that’s how this shoot started for me. I spend months creating my own makeup, I come to Horrify Me and my makeup gets elevated to such a high level with Rick’s expert lighting and photography skills. My trip boost my confidence in my makeup skills and myself, if you want to feel good about yourself, let your dark side out to play, there is no better place than Horrify Me. This is my 5th shoot with Rick now and every time I come back, I have the most amazing time. He is absolutely brilliant at what he does and he deserves all the credit in the world. My last shoot with him was a nude shoot and the shoot I've just had was a lingerie shoot and he reassured me how safe I was. An awesome experience. Kim and I had a fantastic day. I was nervous on arrival as I hate my photo being taken at the best of times. However Rick made us feel very welcome and in no time the nerves were gone. The shoot lasted about 4 hours which flew by, and by the end we were soaked in blood (very sticky). There is a sink with hot water to clean yourself up after, take your own flannels, soap etc. Though there was some soap there to use. Obviously be sure to take a change of clothes. I will say that the blood washed out of everything fine.
If you love horror I highly recommend you give Horrorfy Me a visit. We had an amazing day and the photos are fantastic. Rick was very welcoming and professional. It's no wonder Horrorfy Me is a No1 award winning horror portrait studio.....

If, at the end of the shoot, you'd have asked me to describe my feelings in one word, you probably wouldn't have been able to understand it through the false teeth and mouthful of fake blood. But the expression on my face would have been answer enough - if you could have seen my face through the gore. Luckily, there's this review, and that garbled word was "incredible". As someone who is emphatically not comfortable in front of a lense, Rick's good humour and obvious passion overwhelmed any reluctance or self-consciousness I had, drawing out my outer gentleman vampire and inner ravenous ghoul like the pro he is. At the end of the day, I came away with an array of amazing photos, any of which I'd proudly display above my mantelpiece. You know, if I wasn't concerned about scaring visitors away from my house forever. Heck, it was worth it just for the delicious fake blood; I'm just gutted I didn't think to bring some home for pancake day. Would 100% recommend (though four out of five dentists would be rolling in their graves).

Rick does a great job of making you feel at ease (even if you're self-conscious like me) and you can tell that he absolutely loves his work and wants to do a brilliant job for you. His make-up skills (and Raven's) are incredible (my friends were zombies). The venue is very cool, both figuratively & literally (bring layers!). Definitely an experience, I thought the fake blood was pretty tasty, Rick was friendly & professional, and the end result images are awesome!!! You'll definitely want to buy extra prints! I drove all 200 miles to meet Rick for the first time and the shoot was so much fun! Rick was a complete professional and put me right at ease. We had arranged to shoot again but circumstances on both sides dictated the shoot be rescheduled until the 10th November 2018, oh boy was it worth waiting for! Again, Rick was professional and extremely considerate as this shoot required me to be completely nude and covered in blood!! Having been lucky enough to have worked with Horrify Me twice now, it's safe to say that I cannot recommend this fantastic experience enough! For those of you that like detailed reviews, you're in for a treat - I write essays!
When Rick contacted me to help him create a top secret project for the release of his 2018 book (a project I'm sadly not able to divulge until the release - sorry!), I was over the moon. I've been a huge fan of his work from day one and if you think of horror as bog standard fake blood on your lip and a witches hat, man have you got a thing or two yet to learn!
Rick told me that the project would be incredibly makeup and prosthetic heavy and that in all likelihood, the application process would be around 18 hours long, even with the help of a friend of mine and a collaborative partner of Ricks, rising star in prosthetics and makeup, the lovely Raven. Sadly I wasn't able to get as much time off work as I'd have liked for the shoot and had to make the 5 hour drive to the studio straight from work before getting 3 hours kip in the car before we got started but damn if it wasn't 100% worth it! As always, Rick was incredibly kind, accommodating, enthusiastic and made sure that I was as comfortable and happy as could be throughout the entire process.
An incredibly resourceful and creative gentleman, Rick sees inspiration and potential in his materials and ideas where others would see nothing. The methods he used throughout the project to create this fantastic look were just phenomenally effective, economic and considering all things, were actually pretty comfortable to wear! The project required me to be nude beneath the makeup and Rick was very conscious of preserving my dignity and maintaining a comfortable and safe environment throughout. Very conscious about model safety and comfort, he provided me with a modesty blanket to use if I felt uncomfortable, a heater to keep me from freezing and made sure that any intimate areas were made up by Raven or my friend. However, I know that had they not been there to do so, he would have given me the option to apply makeup to such areas myself or had that not been an option, it would have been handled with the utmost respect, professionalism and dignity.
Rick sourced and considered every minor detail of the look, set and potential issues we'd encounter prior to the shoot and his communication prior, during and following any work he does is thoroughly detailed, helpful and reassuring for anyone who has yet to meet him. For someone who creates such messed up and freaky images for a living, you honestly couldn't meet a more friendly and approachable bloke. Rick has a very relaxed and fun approach to his creations and is an all round genuine and lovely person to work with. He's very easy to talk to, has a cracking sense of humour and you can build a great rapport with him very quickly; essential if you're going to be in makeup for several hours at a time! The time absolutely flew by despite the sleep deprivation and early start, all thanks to everyone's cheerful and upbeat attitudes.
Thankfully with the extra hands, we whittled the process down to 11 hours instead of the estimated 18 and though we'd all been working hard since 3am, Rick was absolutely bursting with energy and excitement once it came time to get out the camera! He's very emotive when shooting and kindly showed me the images in-camera as we went so that I could see what was working and what could be improved. His skills at makeup and prosthetics don't end there - he's also got a fantastic eye for set design and lighting and can create atmosphere from almost nothing. Happy to let me pose and give my own ideas to the shoot, he also gives good and clear direction whenever required to really enhance a pose or mood.
Rick is very open to ideas and suggestions and I would describe him as a 'go with the flow' gentleman who just enjoys the nature of his work and isn't afraid to really have fun with the subject matter. Shooting with Rick, I felt like me, he was experiencing being a zombie/vampire/demon for the first time, despite probably having done this hundreds of times and it's this pure passion and joy that really comes across in his photos. You can see with each new (for instance) zombie he creates that there's no such thing as a cookie-cutter look at Horrify Me. There's always something new and exciting that follows on from the last
and it's that passionate perspective that pushes the boundaries of creativity that little bit further and tailors the look to really suit the person who's wearing it.
Following on from the shoot when it came time to remove the makeup and prosthetics (good God, what a task that was!) Rick very kindly provided me with what he could to make the clean-up process easier despite being utterly exhausted and he still managed to make me a cup of tea even after all of that. Within hours, he'd sent me the first image from our shoot and holy hell did it look bloody brilliant! And I mean BLOODY brilliant!
With my essay coming to it's conclusion I'll leave you with this. I utterly love working with this creative powerhouse and could not recommend him more highly to anyone who's thinking of booking him - if you could give 10 stars out of 5, I would. Trust me when I tell you that this is an experience you and your family will treasure and laugh about for years to come and that's even before you see the photos! I'd happily come to Horrify Me again and again and for those of you who might think that the horror genre only ends at zombies and vampires, well! Do you have a treat waiting for you - Rick has only just begun! ;)

When I talked with Horrify Me about possibly doing this shoot last year I was extremely excited about the prospect but thought Rick or anyone for that matter would struggle to pull off a realistic and genuine representation of the original character. What an experience! The whole family thoroughly enjoyed their day being turned in to zombies! Rick and his wife did an amazing job on our make up and even went to the trouble of making each of us five different scar/wound/rotting flesh/teeth etc. Playing with the blood is an experience I will never forget and was great to get messy with! Had an opportunity to work with Rick on a cancellation he had today, we already had a shoot booked for the weekend but I jumped at the chance to do some extra fun horror work. He is 100% professional and a perfect gentleman with his model. Making sure you're warm enough and plenty of tea. Had the chance to meet his wife too who is also a very lovely lady. The drive alone gets you in the mood as it is a long farm track leading up to an old farm building in the middle of the countryside which could quite easily be the setting for a creepy horror! (I later learned that the surrounding fields were where the fantastic Cannibal Hollocaust shoot was done). We went into the studio and met Rick. He is a really lovely guy and is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. One of the first things that he does is to write your names on a piece of paper and get you to hold it so he can take a photo. I couldn't help but think the photo would end up on some macabre wall full of the photos of all those who had passed by before us and been butchered by Rick after the shoot became real! (If anyone wants to run with that as a movie then go for it! Lol)
After almost two hours of make up and chatting about films, my Freddy face looked incredible! My other half was a little dubious about being photographed in a little night dress but after seeing some of Rick's other work and hearing about some of the requests that he has had, along with his professional manner, she was soon at ease.
The shoot itself was a lot of fun and quite intense at times. Rick guides you though it and is very attentive in everything that he does in order to get the best picture. The blood came by the jug full and he really does like to use a lot and to great effect! Scrubbing down in the sink after was an experience as well and by this time we were both so relaxed and into it that strutting around behind a little screen almost naked wasn't a big deal. In short even if you're not a horror fan go see Rick and do something tame to start with and if you are a fan, from what I have seen and heard I don't think that you could come up with an idea that would shock him, if anything I would say be careful what you ask for because he will definitely deliver!

I have been a fan of Rick's work for a long while so I wanted to invite him to the opening of our studio.
Rick arrived with gifts, one of which was a Horrify Me clock, this has now been stolen by our makeup team and they won’t give it back to me.
Rick asked if he could try out our horror set which of course we were honoured. Our models jumped at the chance to work with him.
Just using our basic setu, he naturally got the models acting and posing, his attitude and manner was 100% professional. He treated the models with great respect and the images he showed me were outstanding.

I worked with Rick for the first time this past weekend and it was one of the best photo shoots I've had - if not THE best I've had so far. I paid for a zombie photo shoot, so plenty of blood and shenanigans.
I would highly recommend Horrify Me and I hope that I get the chance to work with Rick again one day. It's going to be hard for me to put into words what a great experience this was for me. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But having followed his work for some years, I guessed it would be fun. I was correct - it was indeed a huge amount of fun.
It started off simple with Rick getting my make up done. Then we did some shots minus the fake blood then added the blood as the shoot went on. Even though the stuff got absolutely everywhere, and I was sticking to everything, it was great and helped me get into character.
The images I have seen so far look awesome!! (at time of writing I am currently choosing which ones I was as my prints). I would highly recommend paying for a photo shoot with Horrify Me as you won't regret it. After waiting several years to finally work with Rick, I don't regret it - only that I waited so long to do a shoot with him in the first place. I'm hoping one day I get get back to Dover to work with him again.

Wow...I don't know where to start! Rick is such a nice bloke, we immediately felt comfortable when we arrived. So much care and attention to detail was put into our zombie make up and there was fake blood galore.
The photoshoot itself was so much fun and Rick had loads of creative ideas for great shots. The entire experience was so awesome that we were already contemplating when we can return before we'd even left the studio.
The final images are AMAZING and will take pride of place on our walls.

Incredibly professional and welcoming, Horrify Me makes you feel very comfortable. I've done a few shoots now, some completely naked. The atmosphere is great because they are huge fans of horror. I love this place and can't get enough. Seeing the images brings your character to life and the quality of the images are second to none. You want to go wild with gore, pus, great props and end up with startling prints (imaginatively titled) that will make your eyes pop out of your head? Check! The shoot was a demonic shoot shoot with my mum.
Firstly booking my shoot was stress free and really simple, any questions I needed to ask were answered within 24 hours, unlike most bookings I have made in the past with different businesses. Rick and Claire (Mr and Mrs HorrifyMe) are the most professional, kind, friendly, non jugdemental people I have ever met.
The shoot took place at Sheffield Horrorcon (13.05.17) which was orginally booked for their studio, but after asking Rick if it would be possible to do the shoot at the convention, the date was still set. After all it was my birthday and what a birthday it would be... Horrorcon and a Horror photo shoot with Horrify Me on the same day.
The shoot: I have never had a photo shoot done before, so I felt a little out my comfort zone, but Rick and Claire put me at ease within seconds. After all the makeup was applied we were ready to get started. Adding more and more and just a bit more blood (I mean you can't ever NOT have enough blood). Rick guided me into certain poses as he snapped away with the camera. The outcome was absolutley incredible, I knew the shoot would be good, but it super exceeded my expectations.
I could go on and on about my experience, but where's the fun in that. If you... yes YOU are thinking of doing a shoot with Horrify Me, STOP thinking and get it booked. It really is an excellent experience not to be missed by any horror fan. The images that appear on the prints after the shoot are simply beautiful, extremly detailed and worth every penny.
I will be booking another shoot very soon to experience it at their studio, where there are no limitations. So what are you waiting for?

Well, what can I say? I stood around for 10 hours while Rick and his wife Claire painted me, drew on me and stuck pins on me. Best shoot of my life. Rick and Claire are the best team and it's awesome watching them work! It was a howl doing the shoot, we laughed through the whole day, watched god knows how many films and just had the best day! They managed to persuade a friend Mike into being my Mr Pinhead (Poor Mike). He rocked it, the whole team were 100% professional even though we all ran round like children all day. We even had Pizza for breakfast ;)
The images are stunning and rock every part. I'm blown away and truly overwhelmed by how much I love them! I loved being The Bride of Pinhead.
They are the most laid back people and I just can't wait to get back and see/work with them again!!

The 'Bride of Pinhead' shoot is the third shoot I have done with the extremely talented Horrify Me team. And what a shoot it was!! After months of planning and preparing from everyone involved, the finished shots far exceeded my expectations. This was a dream shoot for me to do as Pinhead is my all time favourite horror character. And the vision that Horrify Me expressed to bring these characters to life was just mind blowing. I cannot reccommend Horrify Me highly enough and if you ever get a chance to become any iconic horror character from a zombie all the way up to whatever you can dig out of the darkest depths of your minds then I advise you to take the opportunity. Wow, what a shoot! Where do I start? I was absolutely over the moon when Rick agreed to work with me on my first modelling tour as I've been a fan of his work for quite some time. And you know, it was everything I'd dreamed it would be! Rick is an absolutely lovely guy and insanely good at what he does! His pre-shoot communication was absolutely excellent and I had a good idea of what to expect on the day. Having arrived at his incredibly spacious studio, I geeked out over his amazing collection of horror memorabilia, props and self made costumes. Rick was kind enough to have provided or made all props and even fake blood/goop for me beforehand and immediately made me feel completely at ease with a nice cup of tea.
A man of all too many talents, Rick is far too modest and it's evident within minutes of speaking to him just how passionate he is about his work. Easy to talk to, full of boundless creativity and with a very relaxed way of working, he's got tonnes of interesting stories and the time passed quickly during the make up process. Equipped with a fantastic arsenal of homemade and professional makeup and painting equipment, Rick's background in fine art is evident in his very detailed and elaborate work. This even included liquid latex.
Rick made sure I was warm and comfortable throughout the process. We had a great laugh until it was time to shoot; especially as I was hoovering round the set dressed as Samara from The Ring! Rick's studio is really well equipped with plenty of lights, gels, backdrops and smoke machines. He has a fantastic eye for lighting and uses really unique and interesting methods to emphasise this and create atmosphere. He gives very good direction when needed but also allowed me plenty of creative freedom with my posing. He was very respectful and considerate of preserving my modesty when we shot nude before the makeup went on and showed me the images from each set as we shot them so I could see what was working and what wasn't.
When we'd finished shooting indoors, we headed outside to a nearby wood to take some juxtaposition shots and had a good laugh at the motorists staring at us. All the while, Rick was very considerate and made sure I didn't walk barefoot through all the nettles (I did anyway but he was kind enough to flatten them for me first).
If you've managed to read this far, I will say this to summarise: I honestly cannot sing this lovely artists and photographers praises enough! Kind, very modest, funny and super enthusiastic, Rick is absolutely amazing at what he does and not only creates a great image but fantastic storytelling and memories too! I went away at the end of the day with a huge smile on my face (under the latex anyway) and some excellent stories to tell. I can recommend this lovely gentleman 110% and would utterly love to work with him again in the future! Thank you so much for a truly incredible start to my tour Rick! |

I arranged a demonic photo-shoot for my 40th Birthday with my wife and two children, Nathan (12) and Millie (9).
As soon as we arrived at the studio, Rick put us at ease with a cup of tea, where we discussed our ideas and the overall photo-shoot.
Rick has an amazing ability to put you at ease from the get go and got the best out of our children.
Even during the process of making Claire and the kids into demons, he was outgoing and chatting away to Nathan and Mille, so they felt fully involved and relaxed through the while shoot.
Throughout the whole day the kids never got bored and when it came to the messy parts of the shoot, they proper got into it. Were else can you mutilate your dad and end up covered in blood?
I would highly recommend the photo-shoot to anyone especially if you would like a different family portrait.
Both of our kids fully enjoyed the day and couldn't wait to get back to school and show off the pictures to their friends.
All I would say is to be prepared for a very messing an sticky day. By the end of the shoot, you'll be completely covered in blood and have some great shoots to show to your family and friends. |

So I came back for my second shoot and I chose a horror beauty theme this time, in a boudior style shoot, but as a Zombie! And I was able to get a few beauty shoots before all the horror make up was done witch was great too. Well what can I say? It was absoultly amazing! I loved it and it was so much fun from the shoot and the whole process was just great. Rick is always a pleasure to work with and just makes you feel so comfortable throughout the process and always helps and guides you where needed which is good and it's always good fun. I took a friend with me this time and she loved seeing the transformation of me as well. The final result of the pictures are just amazing. I absolutely love them, I actually look like I've come back from the dead which I love. I felt so comfortable in the shoot and I was keept nice and warm through out that I completely forgot I was half naked by the end of it all. The whole day was great fun and a giggle and the results at the end are just amazing too. If you have not booked up a shoot or thinking abou it with Rick then do it! I would do recommend him as he's such a pleasure to work with and does great things too! And he has so much passion for what he does. I'm already thinking about another shoot later this year. |

We had a zombie family photoshoot (children as well, and they loved the whole experience). Rick and Claire explained the process and stages of make up to us all, having to get covered in muck and blood. It is an amazing experience. Rick is extremely patient with me as I giggled most of the time. I couldnt help it, it was fun. Claire was on hand with make up touch ups and cups of tea if we wanted them.
This is the second time I myself have been to Horrify Me, as I also played the character Nosferatu. Again another amazing experience.

I really cannot rate highly enough my experience at Horrify Me. From the moment I arrived at the studios, right through to the end of the day, it was fun all the way where creative juices and sweet tasting theatrical blood flowed.
A full day paced just right, from having a relaxing cuppa with Rick when I first arrived, where we got to know each other and covered the plan for the day. Right though to discussing ideas, being put into makeup and then the shoot itself, at no point was there any feeling of being rushed or awkward. I loved how Rick, in addition to lots of his own ideas for poses, was so receptive to my own ideas, no matter how wild. It was very much a day where you got out what you put in. One where any self-consciousness I had in front of the camera was well and truly scared away and where the resulting photos were suitably, brilliantly, horrifying. Thank you.
So come prepared with a few props and clothes, and more than a few ideas to recreate, and Rick will see to it that you to are suitably horrified! Mwahaha! |

Simply brilliant. The girls & I had a great mornings shoot with Rick. Who knew Victoria had an inner vampire just waiting to be unleashed?! Trying not to laugh with a mouthful of goo was tricky, we have now washed it all out although I'm not sure Mitch will ever look a jam donut the same way again...
Victoria was also awestruck with the R2 unit which was her icing on the cake. Rick was just great, easy going & professional & explained how the shoot would unfold & how the vampire journey would begin. We went with a gothic Victorian theme (who doesn't love dressing up?!)
